Four Poster Bed

My four poster bed is a variation of my pencil post bed. The difference between the two beds is that the four poster bed's posts are four sided rather than octagonal (8 sided) and the tops of the posts are finished with a pyramid cut. If you'd prefer finials and/or a canopy frame like those on our pencil post bed they are available for an additional charge. When you order your bed we'll ask for the thickness of your mattress and boxspring so we can adjust the height of the headboard accordingly. Sturdy angle iron brackets support your boxspring and mattress and knock down mortise and tenon joinery permits complete disassembly for UPS shipping. If you'll be using this with just a mattress or futon we will build the bed with a hardwood slat platform which provides excellent support while still allowing your mattress to breath. All king size beds include a fifth leg in the center for added support for split boxspings or slats. For more information on bed construction see my bed construction details page.

All king size beds include a center support slat and post. An optional center support is available for full and queen size beds.

Adding a canopy frame adds 1" to the height
Adding finials adds 4" to the height
Adding finials and a canopy frame adds 5" to the height
The inside dimensions of the bed frame are 1" longer and wider than the standard mattress size to allow for bedding.

Four Poster beds are available in these standard woods:

• Cherry
• Maple
• Ash
• Curly Maple & Walnut - additional cost available upon request.

The base prices for four poster beds are for either cherry or maple and include angle iron supports for a box spring and mattress. King size beds also include a center support beam and post.

All beds are built to order so that the headboard can be placed at the correct height in relation to the top of your mattress. When we receive your order we will contact you to get the thickness of your mattress or mattress and box spring. If you will be purchasing a new mattress but haven't picked it out yet please don't let that keep you from ordering your bed now. We typically have an 12-16 week backlog so you'll have at least a few weeks to get your mattress dimensions to us. Placing your order right away will get your bed in our production schedule while you pick out a mattress. All types of mattresses can be used on our beds.
